Thomas Meeker is a Technical Artist and Designer who began working at X-Rite during the launch of the X-Rite Total Appearance Capture (TAC) ecosystem in 2016. In his role as the 3D Solutions Architect, he supports TAC as Product Champion for North America. His responsibilities include technical support, training, assisting in product development, and also the creation of digital assets used in the PANTORA Material Hub, a desktop application designed to simplify the management of a large volume of complex color and appearance data.
During his study in Architecture, Thomas was introduced to 3D modeling and animation software, and was inspired by these tools and the capability of simulating 3-dimensional environments. He worked as both a Digital Artist and Animator in the 3D industry for many years. This included interactions with architects and furniture designers, as well as projects in the medical and manufacturing industries. His 3D rendering work can be found in publications such as Dwell, Elle Décor, and Atomic Ranch.
In his X-Rite role, Thomas shares his knowledge of the Total Appearance Capture Ecosystem, and how these tools are having an impact on the product development and manufacturing industries as they migrate to a more digital future.
There are a plethora of materials and finishing options available to designers and brand owners today. With all of these options, it’s essential to be able to capture, render, and proof texture, gloss, reflective characteristics, and full dimensional forms—as well as the color—of the final product. Imagine a scanner that can capture both color and appearance data, and then render that into a physically correct virtual material that can be viewed in a virtual color viewing booth. See what’s on the horizon of print production workflow in this very informative session.
